Scuba Diving on Bonaire as a Solo Traveler
Thinking about coming to Bonaire on your own and diving? This blog shares how we welcome solo travelers into our small group guided dives, and why it’s easy to feel comfortable, connected, and supported — whether you're traveling solo or not.
Why Solo Travelers Love Scuba Diving in Bonaire
Traveling alone can be freeing. But when it comes to scuba diving, showing up solo might feel a bit intimidating at first. At Scuba Elite, we know how important it is to feel comfortable and confident when joining a dive as a solo traveler. That’s why we’ve created a dive environment where it’s easy to connect, find your pace, and simply enjoy the experience.
From the moment you walk into our dive shop, you’ll notice the relaxed atmosphere. Our team is approachable and happy to help you get settled for your dive day. We get a lot of questions from solo travelers about whether Bonaire is the right place to dive while traveling alone. The short answer? Absolutely!
Small Group Diving That Feels Personal
You’re More Than a Dive Buddy Slot
At Scuba Elite, our guided dives are designed with solo travelers in mind. Many people come to Bonaire looking for peace, nature, and connection. And what better way to find all three than underwater?
Our groups are intentionally small. We don’t do crowded boats or anonymous buddy pairings. We keep our groups small, and we genuinely enjoy getting to know the people we dive with — not just their air consumption or dive count, but the person behind the diver. Whether it’s your first dive on the island or your tenth, you’ll feel supported, safe, and welcomed.
Small groups only
After getting to know your dive buddies, we’ll dive into the briefing. Which also includes information about the Bonaire National Marine Park.
How We Build Community Underwater
Traveling solo doesn’t mean being alone. It means choosing your own pace — and the people you share it with. That’s why we start each morning with a casual dive briefing over coffee. Our instructors introduce the group, set expectations, and help ease any nerves.
We’ve had guests arrive a little shy, unsure of what to expect. But by the end of the week, they're swapping dive photos, chatting about favorite sites, and keeping in touch long after their last dive.
Safety and Comfort First
Every guided dive includes a safety check, a site briefing, and surface interval support. If you're new to Bonaire, it can feel challenging to find a dive buddy you truly feel comfortable with — especially when you're traveling solo and want to dive without a shop's guidance. Our guides are there to assist with gear, entry points, navigation, and to ensure your dive experience is smooth from start to finish.
What We Do for Solo Travelers
When You Walk in Alone
Traveling alone to Bonaire and walking into a new dive shop can feel like a big step. Maybe you're excited, maybe a little nervous — or maybe you're simply hoping not to feel invisible. We see you.
We’re always happy to take a moment to chat, help you get your gear sorted, or walk you through the dive plan. Whether you're traveling solo or not, we want every diver to feel relaxed and ready for the water.
You won’t be left wondering who to talk to or what comes next. You’ll be part of the group — not just included, but truly connected. Because to us, diving is personal. And we know that how you feel before and after the dive matters just as much as what you see underwater.
From Guests to Community Members
Over the years, we’ve had guests join clean-up dives, attend coral planting events, and keep in touch long after their last dive. One of our solo traveler guests even met people at the airport and directed them to us — spreading the love! It’s not just about the diving — it’s about helping you enjoy Bonaire to the fullest. And we love to make things easy.
