If you’re looking for an adventurous dive and contribute to a healthy reef, this is the specialty for you! The Lionfish is an invasive species here on Bonaire. Meaning, they don’t belong to our reefs natural habitat.

After a hurricane the lionfish ended up on our reefs without any natural predator to hunt on them. This means they ended up on the top of the food chain really quick. The lionfish eats and hunts on the fish that keeps our underwater eco system in tact. So by doing that, the lionfish disturb our reefs.

As a Lionfish hunter you’re allowed to hunt on these predators with the guidance of a local hunter. Join us in the battle against the Lionfish and dive for a healthier reef. After the theoretical session, we will practice with the hunting device and go for two dives.

DIVE 1 — Coral Nursery Maintenance

The course starts in the nursery. You’ll clean the coral trees, remove algae and fire coral, inspect the health of each fragment, and practice precise buoyancy while working close to the structures. This dive teaches you the foundation of coral care and how nurseries stay healthy.

DIVE 2 — Pruning, Looping & Re-Hanging

Before entering the water, you practice proper coral handling on land. Underwater, you learn how to prune healthy fragments, make clean monofilament loops, and re-hang the corals with correct spacing and technique. This step ensures the nursery continues to grow and produce strong fragments for restoration.

DIVE 3 — Stacking Fragments on Outplanting Frames
